The Story of the Singapore Sling.

The Singapore Sling is the signature drink of Long Bar at The Raffles Hotel. It’s history is as unique and rich as it’s taste. The cocktail was created sometime before 1915 by Mr. Ngiam Tong Boon.

The essential ingredients are gin, cherry brandy, Benedictine Dom, Cointreau and pineapple juice. The drink is known for its refreshing effect as well as the little “pick me up” effect it has (in small amounts). The pineapple juice is responsible for the foamy top that forms when the drink is served right.

The cocktail has been a little part of our history and seeing as to how it is available internationally, it plays it’s part in telling cocktail lovers all over where it’s origins are. And people do travel to Long Bar to savour the drink. 

I fell in love with the Singapore Sling in my time tending bar at various places in Singapore. I strived to make the best Sling in the Clarke Quay area. I do not know if I ever achieved it but I did have repeat customers for my Singapore Sling. It was then i appreciated the art of mixology.

Mixology is a rather modern science (or art, or both) that is really fun. The mixologist has to understand liquid densities, viscosity, colour and in some cases flammability too. Mixologist like to believe that they can alter mood depending on what drinks they feed you. 

I personally did not know it was such a passion until I met the people at Drinkdings. We are going to be unveiling a surprise for all you cocktail lovers later this week. Suffice to say it will entail a lot of knowledge and some drinking =).

The Holiday Plans.

Our mission from day one has always been the same. We want to connect you to great coaches. We want our users to be able to learn and have fun while learning. This month we have got some new courses as well as our popular ones to ensure you have fun during the mid year
 
June is just around the corner and kids are going to be at home for about a month.

We were a little skeptical of allowing an investment program to be on board with us but after meeting with Terence, Mark and Matthew from Giants Learning Technologies, we felt a whole lot better. This program does not say you will turn “$1,000 into $78, 000” instead it shows you how to get a little every week. 
 
You will learn how to manage your money and plan for retirement, adopt a optimists’ psychology and pick the instructions you need to begin trading. What is unique is that throughout the workshop Mark and Matthew (yes they are brothers!) will run a game that makes you feel like you are trading live. It is really exciting and immediately you apply the concepts you learn.

Zack is a fitness guru with a strong conviction. He wants people to understand their exercise and do what is good for their bodies. And he has the perfect system for it, The TX 20 program. Zack works with a doctor to ensure the exercise he prescribes for his clients are to their requirements.

Having gone through one session with her, the Team actually did feel both energized and sweaty. Making it a full-fledged motivation + exercise session. Truly you have not experienced the full power of a laugh till you do a laughter yoga session.

Design is a study of the elegant, the beautiful and often said to be reserved for those with the Eye. At Orita Sinclair however, they have a course that allows the development of the designer within all of us.
 
With a focus on graphic design, the program allows for anyone to take an interest in making images, sketches and graphics come together to communicate a message. Whether you want to be a graphic designer or just are looking develop communication beyond words, this course Is a great refresher for you.
 
Open your mind to the sights, curves and nuances of design.

We have noticed over the years that people have been getting trigger happy, with their cameras.
 
A wise man once said “the size of the camera says nothing about the man behind it”
 
While we have no idea who that wise man was, we managed to get hold of Gary, a photographer turned teacher who does excellent work and is really good at making participants understand the science and art of taking good pictures. Regardless of the camera being used.
 
Gary believes in quality and does his workshops only once a month so be sure to book early. It’s a really enjoyable workshop and we love it because Gary never says “No” to a question. He truly clears all doubt.

The exercise of laughter

Laughter is often said to be the best medicine of all. In india there are laughter clubs which see groups of 15 - 20 people getting together and going through the process of laughing as a health benefit. 

A 2 min laugh is said to reduce stress, strengthen muscles, trigger the release of endorphins and encourage blood flow thus lowering the risk heart attacks. A full-bellied laugh is also highly infectious so you would not just be helping yourself but also those around you. 

Stress levels are greatly reduced with a good laugh. It’s the got the same benefit of someone cracking a good joke in a highly tense situation and everyone involved appreciates the loss of tension.

Laughter can be brought about spontaneously or induced methodically. Spontaneous laughter happens when funny situations or things happen. Methodical laughter is achieved in a laughter yoga class.

On Twofold, we want to always connect you with great coaches and Laves is a a great laughter coach. Indeed she is always making those around her laugh. She conducts workshops where people get together for sole reason of laughing and rejoicing. Laves believes that by laughing together, We release our worries and tensions together and the collective effervescence of health & joy builds with everyone involved in the group.

1. Read comics in the newspaper or comics that you enjoy. 

2. Listen to laughter sounds from the Bachorowski Lab and smile. 

3. Watch a comedy episode every night before you sleep. ( I do this personally) It makes for a good, restful sleep.

Exercise!

Good food, good music, good company and exercise form the 4 aspects that one should have to live a healthy (and wealthy) life. Zack makes exercise come alive. Within 15 minutes of meeting him, he explains how most people are weekend warriors and how exercise should be treated with as much attention as one’s finances. 

Together with being a really conscientious trainer, Zack is also an inventor. He has developed a product called the TX-20. And he lives it. The product, coupled with Zack’s training, allows users to get an awesome gym based workouts in the comfort of their homes. The product is not for sale yet and only his clients get to use it.

However having tried it, I know i am getting a set when it hits the stores. It truly does give you a full workout as you can perform over 25 exercises on one structure.

Zack, when not inventing exercise gear, is a trainer with a difference. Working with him entrails making a commitment to your health and getting a doctor (Yes, he works with one but will visit yours if need be) to ensure that the workouts are helping you achieve your goals.

New Additions in April.

We hope the first 3 months of the year have been fruitful for you. It’s seems like just yesterday 2012 began and now we are in mid April. Time does fly and maximizing it is important.

3. Looking Gorgeous

We’ve run M.A.C and Bobbi Brown workshops and kept getting requests for one on one consultations. So we started looking and Juliana literally popped up. She has done the make up for Irene Ang, Amy Cheng and Denise Phua (yep, the MP). She is experienced enough to handle all your questions and as well as give you some innovative ideas as to how to maximize your budget on makeup.

Make a date with juliana and let her give you the one on one attention you need and get all your makeup queries sorted out.

Shooting has been legalized, and the police cannot stop you! Shooting with lenses has been around for a long time and it is a fun way to add visuals to your thoughts. 

Cameras are devices that communicate in pictures what the mind thinks. We have found a course that helps you use a camera effectively and ensures that you add proper lighting, style and stories to your pictures. 

Gary has been shooting and sharing his love for the camera and pictures for a long time now. He does commercial work, adding his ability to tell captivating stories to the images he shoots. 

He decided to share his passion by providing coaching for photography and it’s finer points. The course is a full day course held on the first Wednesday (2nd May next) of each month. It covers everything from parts of the camera to adjusting for light and how to ensure your thoughts are translated in to pictures. 

Gary believes that photography can be used to relax and is a great stress buster. Weather done alone or in groups, the ability to take great pictures and express thoughts not only relaxes individuals but also gives them a great sense of accomplishment. 

Regardless of whether you have a camera, are planning to get one or just want to see what it’s like handling the pro tools (yes he provides the cameras), this one day affair with photography is sure to get your fingers ready to do some shooting
